CITY COUNCIL MINUTES
August 11, 2010
The Royal City Council met in regular session on Wednesday, August 11, 2010, 6:30 p.m. at the Community Building. Mayor Virelli called the meeting to order with the following council members present: Bill Burgeson, Johnnie King, John Roberts, Arlene Wimmer, Monica Kelly.
The minutes of the previous meeting had been read by the council. M. Kelly made a motion to approve the July minutes. A. Wimmer seconded. All ayes; motion carried.
The financial report and bills for August were reviewed by the council. M. Kelly made a motion to approve the financial report. B. Burgeson seconded. All ayes; motion carried.
A building permit was requested by Bethlehem Lutheran Church of 207 Church Street. J. Roberts made a motion to approve this permit. J. King seconded. All ayes; motion carried. A building permit was requested by Laef Lundbeck for 90 2nd Avenue. J. Roberts made a motion to approve this permit. J. King seconded. All ayes; motion carried.
Mike Buren gave his maintenance report.
Barb Fletcher presented her clerk's report.
A claim was made by Johnnie King for cleaning up water damage in his basement. After discussion, A. Wimmer made a motion to deny this claim. M. Kelly seconded. All ayes; motion carried.
Two bids were received for repairs to the maintenance building. After discussion, A. Wimmer made a motion to accept the low bid from Christensen Co. in Estherville to repair damages at a cost of $6070. M. Kelly seconded. All ayes; motion carried.
Gravel is needed on Market Street. A bid was received from Hagedorn Excavating for $313.40. J. King made a motion to accept this bid. B. Burgeson seconded. All ayes; motion carried.
The community building renovation project donation was next on the agenda. Becky Smoot was asked to make a report. It was then decided to talk about community building improvements before a decision was reached on the donation. Jeff Van Westen had been asked to get bids & received two bids on new vacuum cleaners. After discussion, A. Wimmer made a motion to purchase a vacuum at a cost of $459.95. M. Kelly seconded. Ayes: A. Wimmer, M. Kelly. Nays: B. Burgeson, J. King. Abstain: J. Roberts. Motion denied. A. Wimmer moved to reconsider a motion to contribute to the RCA remodeling project at a donation of $1500. M. Kelly seconded. Ayes: A. Wimmer, M. Kelly. Nays: B. Burgeson, J. King, J. Roberts. Motion denied.
A sewer maintenance contract was reviewed by the council. Pete Howe Industrial had submitted a 3 and 5 year contract for consideration. Discussion followed. This was tabled until Jason Howe could be present to give further explanation.
A. Wimmer made a motion to adjourn. M. Kelly seconded. All ayes; meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
